'Penny Dreadful' season 2: Villain to be revealed, new season to be very different

The cast and creator of "Penny Dreadful" were very much present at the San Diego Comic-Con, where tons of spoilers about season 2 were spilled. Spoilers included what direction season 2 will go, the main villain of the new season and many more.

Show creator John Logan, together with Josh Hartnett, Harry Treadaway and Reeve Carney answered questions from the panel. When asked about how different season 2 will be, Logan answered, "The cosmology, the theology of the show gets much larger— they're thrown into a much more threatening supernatural world." Season 1 was about building a family, while season two is about "building on those relationships in different patterns."

On the topic of season 2's main antagonist, Logan revealed that it's a familiar face... none other than Madame Kali. A scene showing Kali's motivation was cut from the season 1 finale, but it will appear somewhere in season 2. The scene showed Kali talking to Ferdinand Lyle about Vanessa Ives.

"There is nothing common about Miss Ives," Kali tells Ferdinand. "What games we'll have, Miss Ives and I, when one will live and one will die." She adds that she and Ives will "unleash glorious horrors" together.

In the season 1 finale, it was revealed that Ethan Chandler is indeed a werewolf, which was what Harnett knew all along. "The werewolf thing made me feel more ingrained in the actual world of 'Penny Dreadful,'" Logan said. "Everyone else had their secrets, I wanted mine."

Logan further shared about what happens to Ethan, saying, "He finds out exactly what he is, and has to deal with the consequences of that." The backstory of Ethan will be shown as well as his relationship with his father.

Other spoilers for season 2 includes a new character, one that will "lead us further into the Dracula origin story." Then there's revealing what the portrait of Dorian Gray looks like. "There's an inherent sadness that comes with losing everyone you've ever lost. The portrait bears the burden of his sins, but it certainly crosses his mind," Carney said about his character.

"Penny Dreadful" season 2 will be back in 2015. Logan is still currently writing the new season.
