The leader of a London-based church has been arrested in Ghana after his pregnant wife was found dead in the bathtub of a hotel.

Eric Isaiah Adusah, 28, is the leader of Global Light Revival Ministries Church, based in Tottenham but with branches in Edinburgh and Manchester. He and his wife Charmain, 41, from Arboath, had visited Ghana for a Christian conference led by Bishop John Yaw Adu.

Adusah is believed to have checked out of the hotel on the day his wife died, telling staff that his wife was staying on but was ill and did not wish to be disturbed.

Charmain Adusah was three months pregnant when she died and had an eight-year-old son from a previous relationship. Her body was found on March 20.

The church issued a statement on April 3 saying: "Global Light Revival Church regret to announce the passing away of our First Lady Mrs Charmaine Isaiah Adusah. The Church express our deepest sympathy to our Rev Eric Isaiah Adusah and the Speirs family and stand with them in prayer at this time."

This was followed by a statement yesterday saying: "The church wish to appeal to all to remain patient pending investigations into the TRUE cause of death of our Charmain Isaiah Adusah. In the meantime our thoughts and prayers remain with Rev Eric Isaiah and the Speirs family."
