After Apple Inc. unveiled its new line of iPads during its Oct. 16 media event in the company's headquarters in Cupertino, California, the tech firm also announced that its latest Mac-supported operating system, the OS X Yosemite, is available for download.

As expected, the tech company has come up with noticeable changes all over the new OS X. It offers an improved Safari browser, a new look for the Notifications Center, as well as interface changes for some of the OS functions and easier synchronization with iOS devices.

But what else can an Apple Mac user do with the new operating system?  Here is the list of the new features offered by OS X Yosemite:

New Safari interface

This is probably the biggest and most significant change in the latest OS X. Compared to its predecessor, the OS X Mavericks, the new Safari has a cleaner interface. The Bookmark button is now hidden in the Share menu, while the Favorites bar is now placed under the Address Bar.

Also, the Safari is now offering a single Private window option, wherein users can discreetly browse the web while working on the regular window they are already logged in. They can do this by selecting the File tab, then click the New Private Window. They can also hit Shift+Command+N and another clandestine window will open along with the already existing window.

Enhanced Notification Center

The new and improved Notification Center now has individual interactive widgets created by Apple and third-party developers. There are nine basic widgets offered in Yosemite, including the Today widget that sums up the events in today's schedule, while Tomorrow features what the schedule is for the next day. There is also the Reminders widget, which features the contents of the Reminders app, while the Calculator lets users do basic arithmetic functions.

Other widgets include the World Clock, which tells time from different time zones, Messages that allows users to send texts, Calendar to tell the date, the Social widget that is connected to all social networking sites, as well as Stocks that tells time-delayed stock rates.

Quick Type function in Text Editor

Just like the new feature offered in iOS, there is a Quick Type option.  The user can press the Escape key while using the Text Editor to get a list of predictive word results. If the user finds the word that they are looking for, they just have to select it with the arrow keys then press the Space bar to insert the word.
