'Orange Is the New Black' season 4 to premiere in June 2016

"Orange Is the New Black" season 4 is currently in the middle of production yet Netflix has not yet officially announced when the new season would premiere. However, according to a report from Netflix Life there is the possibility that season 4 would premiere by June next year.

The first season launched on July 11, 2013 but this was the only instance that the series premiered in the very middle of summer. Season 2 and season 3 premiered a little earlier, with the former launching on June 6, 2014 and the latter premiering on June 12 of this year.

According to the report, if season 4 maintains the consistency from previous seasons then it is expected to launch on Netflix by June 10, 2016, which would fall on a Friday. Both season 2 and season 3's premiere also landed on a Friday, which gives credence to the possibility of season 4 also launching on the same day.

Netflix Life also points out that "Orange Is the New Black" season 4 would maintain its summer premiere because of the low competition during the season. Other than "True Detective," it is cited that there aren't that many shows launching at the same time that would be in direct competition for "Orange Is the New Show Black."

Other big shows such as "Game of Thrones" premiere in the spring while others such as "The Walking Dead" and "The Flash" launch in fall, leaving the summer season open for shows such as "Orange Is the New Black."

However, the report does state that a release date of June 10 2016 remains as pure speculation at this point, based solely on past seasons' releases, and that the official release date could be different based on what the executives of Netflix feel would be best for the series.

With that said, it remains entirely possible that season 4 would premiere a month early since production is already nearly complete or it could launch later, such as in July, in order to boost the series' marketing or to give room to a new series such as "Jessica Jones" or the long-gestating "Iron Fist."
