One powerful reason why we can hold on to God's promises

Have you ever doubted whether God would do what He says He will do?  If you have, then my friend, I have an encouragement for you: He will always do what He says He will do.

God doesn't turn His back on His Word

The Bible tells us that from the beginning of time until eternity, God's Word will never ever fail nor fall to the ground. None of God's declarations and promises will ever fail. Unlike some human promises that end up being broken, contracts that have an end, and all oaths and promises that have a limit to their effectivity, God's Word stands firm beyond any other.

Consider what Isaiah 40:8 says: "The grass withers and the flowers fade, but the word of our God stands forever."

Stands forever

You might say that Isaiah's comparison is a weak one, given that grass and flowers quickly decay when cut, but the truth is that everything on this earth decays over time. God's Word, however, stands true and strong forever unlike everything that decays and is forgotten.

Consider the Bible itself. It spans generations in its writing, and its human writers lived in different times and seasons, but all of them have the same message: God's love. The people who lived in each writer's era have all died, but the message stands forever. Indeed, God has His way of preserving His very Word: the Word that brings His message of love and salvation to us.

More enduring than anything

The Lord Jesus Himself gave us a powerful promise in regards to what God said: "Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will by no means pass away" (Matthew 24:35). This is so true.

Friends, God is not slack concerning His promises, nor will He ever forget any of it. In fact, when we think that He has forgotten us or has already turned His back on His Word, that's when we will realise that we are mistaken – that He will never stop being faithful.

Are you at a point in your life where you doubt that God will fulfill His promises to you? Then be encouraged by these verses from the Bible:

"God is not a human who lies or a mortal who changes his mind. When he says something, he will do it; when he makes a promise, he will fulfill it." (Numbers 23:19)

"But now, O Jacob, listen to the Lord who created you. O Israel, the one who formed you says, 'Do not be afraid, for I have ransomed you. I have called you by name; you are mine.'" (Isaiah 43:1)

"Pay attention, O Jacob, for you are my servant, O Israel. I, the Lord, made you, and I will not forget you." (Isaiah 44:21)

"And I am certain that God, who began the good work within you, will continue his work until it is finally finished on the day when Christ Jesus returns." (Philippians 1:6)

"If we are unfaithful, he remains faithful, for he cannot deny who he is." (see 2 Timothy 2:11-13)
