Nicole Kidman has credited her "rock of a husband" Keith Urban and her "strong faith" with helping her get over the death of her father.

The actress's father Dr Antony Kidman died of a heart attack last month at the age of 75.  She was extremely close to her father and admitted to Today's Maria Shriver that his death has been a "devastating thing for my family and for myself right now".

She said that her country singer husband reminded her of her father by "being a good man and choosing to protect his family and take care of himself and his kids".

"And walk the walk, if that makes sense, not just talk the talk," she said.

Asked whether she relied on her husband or her faith to get her through the tough times, the Moulin Rouge actress said both.

"I do both," she told Shriver.  "That would be me right now, and I'm lucky to have a rock of a husband and a strong faith.  I have both these things."

Kidman, whose new psychological thriller Before I Go To Sleep is out in cinemas this Friday, said last week that her husband had been "extraordinary" in the weeks following her father's death.

She also revealed that she "spent a long time" looking for the right man to marry.

"I think as anyone knows, you need a partner who is there for you through the tough times, as well as the good times,' says 47-year-old Kidman," she told the Daily Mail.

"I think when it's really, really tough and things get hard - and recently, I lost my father - and my husband was extraordinary through that.

"So I'm very, very fortunate. But I spent a long time looking for him."

Urban also has a real faith and a few months back shared an adorable video of the family taking part in Reba McEntire's Pray for Peace campaign.  Watch it below:
