It has been quite a while since Google landed a few tablets in the market, the Asus Nexus 7 and the Samsung Nexus 10 in 2012, and the HTC Nexus 9 in 2014. The 10.2-inch Pixel C is a hybrid tablet and does not belong to the Nexus line. Word on the street is that the Nexus 7 is to be resurrected and possibly presented during Google's I/O event and that Huawei will be co-making it.

Google CEO Sundar Pichai already announced that Google's I/O event will happen from May 18 to 20 at the Shoreline Ampitheater. This is a must-see for the Android community. It is speculated that the latest Android N will be officially unveiled, along with some new Google gadgets, and one of them is said to be the reincarnated Nexus 7. It is also fitting that the new tablet will be carrying the latest Android operating system.

Reportedly, the Nexus 7 2016 is a 7-inch tablet, as the name already implies, possibly with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 and 3GB of RAM. It is also said to be having the latest wireless transceiver for 4G and fast Wi-Fi connectivity, as KnowYourMobile reported.

The report added that a QHD display screen is possible, but Google may be aiming for a much more affordable device just like in 2012, when the original Nexus 7 sold like hot cakes.

Yibada added that there is a chance that the Nexus 7 2016 may be powered by HiSilicon's Kirin 950 chipset, which is an octa-core processor with 2.3 GHz and 1.8 Ghz clock speed. It may also incorporate a 2560 x 1800 screen resolution. HiSilicon is based in Shenzen, China and is fully owned by Huawei.

If Google is planning for a higher-end Nexus 7 in 2016, it may also incorporate 3D Touch technology, a metal unibody frame and wireless charging capability, as another report from Yibada stated.
