Previously, fans expected Google to come out with the new Nexus lineups at its I/O Conference event. However, with the new Android N platform still in its beta preview stage, speculations suggest that Google may be targeting a late 2017 release for the Nexus 2016 iterations, possibly in August at the earliest.

Reportedly, one thing that may be causing the release setback is the Android platform itself. Since Google is releasing the new Android N this year, it is already expected that the company will be introducing the new platform version with its new Nexus lineup. However, at the Google I/O Conference last month, it was revealed that the Android N version was still in its development stage, and the team has laid out that the Developer Preview version for Android 7.0 needs five beta versions before the full platform can be released.

In the schedule for the Android N, the full version will roll out by July. This may mean that the new Nexus lineups will be unveiled by August at the earliest. However, Google has yet to confirm if they are coming out with the follow-ups to the Nexus 5X and 6P, though rumors say that the tech conglomerate has already partnered with tech manufacturers to make the new Nexus phones. Nonetheless, some observers think that should fans fail to see the 2016 Nexus by August, Google might be thinking of updating their iterations with an entirely new lineup.

However, industry followers believe that with the recent price cuts on the current-gen Nexus 5X and 6P, Google may already be readying a release for the new Nexus follow-ups. The Nexus 5X is currently down to $275 from its original price tag of $429 on some retail sites like eBay, while the Nexus 6P is also listed with an $80 discount.
