New York Knicks rumors: Team is frontrunner for Tobias Harris and Greg Monroe

Woeful as they may look right now, the New York Knicks can only hope for the best in the future. The Knicks have cleaned house as far as high-salaried players although it remains to be seen if they have the ample salary cap space once the NBA off season comes around.

At the top of their list are two prime NBA player names- Greg Monroe and Tobias Harris.

Though the intent seems to be a big question right now given the limitations in salary cap, critics believe that the Knicks have a good chance of landing both players to play alongside with resident superstar Carmelo Anthony.

Tobias Harris has been hitting it big over at Orlando and chances are he will be a prime target come the offseason. Set for a fatter paycheck, it may all depend on whether the Magic would retain him. But a report from the New York post claims that Harris is pretty much interested in joining the Knicks and that salary is not a priority.

Greg Monroe is a big man that is being pursued by several teams as well aside from the Knicks. The Lakers have long been rumored to be interested in the big man so expect Monroe to be among the top names come the free agency.

With Amare Stoudemire already out (now with the Dallas Mavericks), snagging Monroe could fill in the void at the frontline of the Knicks. Monroe can compliment Anthony but all this could depend on whether they can successfully win in the battle for Monroe which is certain to be a hot one.

The Pistons will still of course have the last say but it could all boil down to money and playing time which other teams such as the Knicks (and the Lakers?) can certainly provide.

From the looks of it, this will be a pretty interesting offseason for Harris and Monroe.
