New gospel summer school launches

Published 26 July 2012
Gospel performers Andrea-Louise Carnegie and Karen Gibson are starting up a new performing arts summer school for young people.

Summer Sonic offers talented youngsters from the ages of 10 to 16 the opportunity learn more about dancing, singing, acting and playing a musical instrument.

The five-day course starts in the London borough of Camden on 31 July and will culminate in a live show.

Ms Gibson has conducted large-scale choirs for events such as the Queen’s Jubilee, the Global day of Prayer and the Concert for The Princess of Wales.

She says: “I have personally seen the power of music and the arts in the lives of young people.

"It gives them confidence, presentation skills and they get to understand the importance of teamwork, amongst other things. I think this is so important for their growth and development.”

Ms Carnegie co-founded Spectrum Arts MK, a performing arts holiday school for young people, and is part of the Psalms, Hymns and Spiritual Songs live worship event in south London.
