Is Agent Gibbs (Mark Harmon) dead? That's what it looks like in the new teaser trailer released by CBS, showing the NCIS boss walking into the light.

On Tuesday, TVLine posted a new clip for "NCIS" season 13, and it begins where season 12 ended — with Gibbs getting shot by a young boy named Luke who was recruited by the terrorist group The Calling. Later, Tony DiNozzo (Michael Weatherly) is seen talking to an unconscious Gibbs at the hospital.

"Boss, can you hear me?" a very worried DiNozzo says.

"Actually that's my line," said the surgeon, played by guest star Jon Cryer.

Later, Gibbs is seen with some bandages wrapped around his head, standing in front of a wall full of framed pictures of people with their families.

He then sees an apparition of his late daughter, who tells him, "I'm right here Daddy."

A very emotional Gibbs smiles and takes his daughter's hand, and the little girl is seen leading him into the light.

The scene goes back to the emergency room, and as one of the surgeon's assistants says that Gibbs is "crashing," Cryer's character starts the procedure, saying, "Time to dance, Agent Gibbs. Mind if I lead?"

In an interview with TVLine, showrunner Gary Glasberg revealed that one of the first scenes will show Gibbs being rushed into surgery on an aircraft carrier. Glasberg said that Gibbs' injuries are not to be taken lightly because aside from getting hurt physically, the whole ordeal will be "traumatic" for him.

"Really, the whole first half of the [premiere] is this emotional roller coaster ride, of Gibbs' surgery," he said.

If the surgery saves him, will seeing his late daughter while he was unconscious have an impact on Gibbs' emotional state? Fans know that all throughout the series, Gibbs has never gotten over the death of his first wife Shannon and his daughter Kelly when they were killed by a drug dealer. And will DiNozzo, Ducky (David McCallum), Abby (Pauley Perrette), McGee (Sean Murray) and the rest of the team be changed in some way because of what happened to Gibbs?

Viewers will find out when "NCIS" returns for its 13th season on Sept. 22 on CBS.
