Natalie Grant receives outpouring of support from fans saying 'thank you for standing up for God' after early Grammy exit

Natalie Grant, who was nominated for two Grammys this year, attended this year's award show with her husband on Sunday night, but revealed that she left the show early.

The Gospel singer tweeted: "We left the Grammy's early. I've many thoughts about the show tonight, most of which are probably better left inside my head. But I'll say this: I've never been more honored to sing about Jesus and for Jesus. And I've never been more sure of the path I've chosen."

The 56th annual Grammy awards were controversial, beginning with the opening act, which many parents deemed too risqué for what most consider a family show. Beyonce performed with her barely-there outfit and opened the awards show while sitting on a chair with her legs wide open and writhing around before being joined onstage by her husband, Jay-Z.

Katy Perry, who once went by the name Katy Hudson and sang praises to the Lord, shocked viewers with her performance of "Dark Horse", which contained satanic and demonic symbolism. Perry herself was dressed like a witch with a Knights of Templar cross across her chest, and pole-danced on a broomstick.

Glenn Beck calls Katy Perry's performance 'demonic glorification"

E! News tweeted: "Um, did we just witness actual witchcraft during Katy Perry's #Grammys performance?"

In addition, the performance of Macklemore & Lewis' song has divided opinions across the U.S. Many criticized the award show organizers for pushing a political agenda by having a mass wedding, including numerous same-sex couples, as part of the show. The segment saw Queen Latifah lead a bizarre mass wedding involving 33 homosexual and heterosexual couples.

Macklemore & Lewis' 'Same Love' is widely known as a pro-gay marriage anthem, and has been used by gay activists in their push for a redefinition of marriage. The lyrics of the song push for a redefining of marriage, so it would be between any two consenting adults, as opposed to what Christians believe is the biblical definition of marriage as created by God – the union between one man and one woman before God.

After revealing that she left the awards show early, Natalie Grant received backlash by some gay activists who took her actions as a snub against them. However, thousands have since come to her defense and praised her for standing up for her faith.

Grant herself clarified her message to her fans: "I never pointed out any one particular performance, I only said I had many thoughts about the entire show, which were best left inside my head and that is where they will stay. So those who say I condemned one performance but then condoned others clearly did not read the post.

"What I DID say is this: I am honored to be a part of the Christian music community. I've had many people throughout my career ask why I never tried to go in to mainstream music and last night was a beautiful reminder that I love singing about Jesus and FOR Jesus."

The singer's Facebook is filled with messages of support with fans supporting her.

One comment reads: "Thank you for standing strong for what you believe in. We are standing with you, and praying for you!!"

Another said: "Much respect for you standing up for God at the Grammys!!"

Grant posted an update on Facebook:

"Holding to these lyrics today:

Step out on the edge
 Don't be afraid if it
 When you feel the rain
 Call His name
He'll find you in the #hurricane"
