Movie theater shooting in Louisiana update: Gunman opens fire in Lafayette, multiple injuries

A gunman opened fire on Thursday at a movie theater in Lafayette, Louisiana, and authorities were responding to reports of multiple injuries, the Advertiser newspaper in Lafayette reported.

The Advertiser reported that the shooting broke out during a showing of the film "Train Wreck" at the Grand Theatre. The shooting is believed to have happened at around 7.30 p.m. at the 7 p.m. showing of the movie.

"Prayers for Lafayette at Grand Theater. Talking to state police colonel about shooting in Lafayette," Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal said in a tweet.

Lafayette is a city of some 120,000 people located roughly 55 miles (90 km) southwest of Baton Rouge.
