According to a report from Venture Beat, the highly anticipated 2016 model of Motorola's flagship phone, the Moto X, is being rebranded and will instead launch as the Moto Z. It is also stated that there will be two variations of this phone coming out this June, one named the Moto Z Style and the other as the Moto Z Play.

The naming convention is noted as the third rebranding that has taken place this year, particularly after Sony rebranded the Xperia Z as the Xperia X. According to the report, the Moto Z Style will be the premium model between the two, which indicates it may be thinner and have slightly better features compared to the Moto Z Play.

According to Know Your Mobile, the Moto Z Style comes with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor. It will also feature a 13MP camera, 3GB or 4GB of RAM, 32GB of onboard memory which can be expanded via a microSD card, a 5.5-inch QHD AMOLED display screen and a 2,600 mAh battery.

The Moto Z Play will have a 16MP camera but is slightly thicker in size and features a Snapdragon 625 processor. It will feature a 5.5-inch 1080 AMOLED display and comes in two variants: one with 2GB RAM and 16GB onboard storage space and the other with 3GB RAM and 32GB storage space.

It is also pointed out that both versions of the Moto Z will come with several back ports that may allow customers to customize the back panel casing and utlize a wide variety of compatible accessories such as a projector. A full list of compatible devices has yet to be released.

Both Moto Z devices and their full lineup of capabilities and compatible accessories are expected to make their debut during the upcoming Lenovo Tech World event, which will be held this June 9 in San Francisco, California.
