The mother of the Boston Marathon bomber found guilty yesterday has declared on social media in Russia that the real terrorists are the Americans.

Dzhokhar Tsarnaev's mother, Zubeidat, wrote: "I will never forget it. May god bless those who helped my son. The terrorists are the Americans and everyone knows it. My son is the best of the best."

She added: "Tell everyone that I will never forget their support. May the creator bless them all for their support of my precious boy."

The message, written originally in Russian, was discovered in a support group on VKontakte, the Russian social media site, by the website Vocativ.

The group was set up by a family friend on the social media site to support the bomber and his family and raised $5,000. Photographs of the family and screenshots of chats on Whatsapp and other apps were posted.

Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, 21, was found guilty on all 30 counts, including 17 which carry the death penalty. Three people died in the bombing of the 2013 Boston Marathon. The same jury will also decide on the penalty, which could be death by lethal injection.

Tsarnaev arrived in the US as a child refugee from Kyrgyzstan.
