More People on Google Searching For Memes Than Jesus Christ

More people who go online and use Google search are more interested in looking for memes on the Internet instead of researching about Jesus Christ, data from the popular search engine showed.

According to Mirror Online, Twitter user Dominik Vincent Salonen noticed how memes have already become "more popular" than Jesus using the analytics from Google Trends.

Salonen, who uses the Twitter handle @Kuwaddo, came up with a graph comparing interest in the terms "meme" and "Jesus Christ" on Google, and was surprised to see how the number of searches for these humorous images online has already surpassed the number of searches for the name of the Lord.

Mirror Online also did a separate graph comparing the two terms "memes" and "Jesus" using Google Trends and found out that the word "meme" became more popular than Jesus at around Christmas time in 2014.

Another report from Inverse.com showed that online search interest in the term "Jesus" spiked during two Christian holidays: Easter Sunday and Christmas.

The same website also found out using Google Trends that the term "meme" is also closing the gap in terms of online searches when compared with the word "God."

Inverse.com also compared interest in the terms "meme" and "Jesus" in other social media platforms. In the online mobile photo-sharing app Instagram, over 13 million posts used the hashtag #Jesus. Not close behind, the hashtag #meme was used 12.9 million times as of Wednesday.

"This information shows a major shift in what people are searching for, but it also proves that people are looking for more material on creations bred by the internet than the arguably most revered religious figure in history," the website stated.

"As people's lives intersect with their online ones more and more, it makes sense that Jesus would be overthrown by the likes of anthropomorphic frogs and his friends," it added.
