The Bible tells us that as Christians, all of us have been given what Paul calls the "ministry of reconciliation." Whether we like it or not, we must understand that we have a very important task in the Lord: to let the world know that He loves everyone and wants them to return to Him and become their sons and daughters through Christ.

What is the ministry of reconciliation?

The ministry of reconciliation is not a church or a para-church organisation. Rather, it is a way of life, a privilege and a responsibility that all Christians must understand and live all through the years of their lives. If you have been reconciled to the Lord God and have become His child, then you have been given the ministry of reconciliation.

This ministry or task is not given by any pastor or church leader to any person who wants to serve. Rather, it comes from God and God alone, who is the One who does not stop doing it.

"All this is from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation: that God was reconciling the world to himself in Christ, not counting people's sins against them. And he has committed to us the message of reconciliation." (2 Corinthians 5:18-19)

How do we do it?

The ministry of reconciliation is very simple. We as Christians are God's messengers of His love and desire to reconcile with everyone in the world. Here's how simple it is:

"We are therefore Christ's ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us. We implore you on Christ's behalf: Be reconciled to God. God made Him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in Him we might become the righteousness of God." (2 Corinthians 5:20-21)

Even simpler

If you didn't get that, think about it this way: you, as a child of God, are to help people understand that God loves them, and that He wants all men to be reconciled to Him through Christ. You are to let them know that in God's love, He sent His one and only begotten Son to die for our sins and accept the punishment on our behalf, simply because there's no way for us to completely atone for all the wrongdoing we have done. But through Christ, we have the way to become reconciled with the Father, who loves us dearly.

Our lives then should become a message of God's love to everyone we know. Our words, deeds and lifestyle must communicate to everyone, saved or not saved, that God wants all men to be saved and come to a knowledge of the truth in Christ.

Our lives then aren't for ourselves. It's given to us for the purpose of bringing to every person the message of reconciliation in Christ. This is what we should live for: to bring the love of God to men and to bring men to God.

Why we shouldn't stop doing it

God wants all men to be saved. (see 1 Timothy 2:4)

Even if there's only one person left in the world who still hasn't heard the message and given the opportunity to repent his sin, we must continue sharing the message of reconciliation in Christ.
