Surface Pro 3 vs. iPad Pro specs comparison: Is it even close?

The Surface Pro 3 is the newest tablet/laptop from Microsoft. Looking at its specs, the device is pretty impressive. This is why the Surface Pro 3 has been compared to many of the popular tablets and laptops today, including the rumored Apple iPad Pro.

While everything about the iPad Pro is still rumors, it can't be ignored that there's much anticipation for the new Apple tablet, and it will certainly be compared to the newest offering from Microsoft. But before going to the comparison, one should know that the Microsoft Surface Pro 3 is intended to be sold as a tablet. However, Microsoft also offers a detachable keyboard that enables it to become a notebook.

The Surface Pro 3 indeed makes a good comparison to the iPad Pro because the latter is rumored to also be a blend of a tablet and a laptop. Also, the sizes for the devices is expected to be not so different. Without further ado, here is the battle between the Surface Pro 3 and the iPad Pro:

In the hardware department, Microsoft Surface Pro uses 4th Gen Intel-core processor in i3, i5, or i7, which is something that new laptops use. iPad Pro is rumored to have a quad-core processor, but it is still unsure whether Apple will use an Intel chipset.

For the operating system, the difference is obvious. Surface Pro 3 runs on Windows 8.1. The iPad Pro will surely run on iOS. PC Advisor predicts that it could be iOS 8.

Screen resolution is very important when it comes to choosing who wins this battle. The sizes of the two screens will not be that different. Surface Pro 3 sports a 12-inch display with a resolution of 2160 x1440, while the iPad Pro is rumored to have a 12.9-inch display with up to 4,000 pixel resolution.

As for the battery performance, Apple's iPad Pro is rumored to have a longer battery life than the iPad Air. However, there are no details yet. The Surface Pro 3 offers up to 9 hours of web browsing.

Other things to consider are the other features of the two tablet/laptops. Both Surface Pro 3 and the iPad Pro are considered hybrids, in the sense that both come with a keyboard accessory that transforms the tablet into a notebook. Surface Pro 3 comes with a stylus, while the iPad Pro might come with a Touch ID fingerprint sensor.

The battle between the two newest offerings from Microsoft and Apple is definitely a close one. However, until consumers know for sure what the iPad Pro is going to be packed with, no one can really decide who wins this tech war.
