Microsoft is expected to drop the launch details of the rumored Surface Book 2 during the tech firm's upcoming October event.

Speculations about the unveiling of the next-generation hybrid laptop claimed that it will possibly happen next month, together with the expected launch of the Surface Pro 5. However, the device might not be shipped in stores immediately after the launch.

According to reports, the Microsoft Surface Book 2 will be equipped with the new Kaby Lake processor. But since the upcoming seventh-generation CPU from Intel is not expected to come out until the latter part of the year, it could mean that the production of the Surface Book 2 may not begin until Kaby Lake is out.

On the other hand, University Herald cited rumors that Microsoft might have to wait until they release the Redstone 2 update for Windows 10. However, the second biggest update for the current Windows operating system is scheduled to come out in Spring 2017. This means the wait for the next-generation laptop-tablet hybrid might still take a long time before the device can be purchased.

As of the moment, there are no official details released regarding the specs of 13.5-inch Microsoft Surface Book 2, but the current edition of the device comes in two versions. One features an Intel Core i5 processor, while the other is equipped with the Intel i7 processor. The device also has the 8-GB and 16-GB RAM variants with up to 1 TB internal storage.

The Microsoft Surface Book 2, on the other hand, is expected to come out with 4K video and 3D display support. But those who already own the first-generation Surface Book want to see the hinge gap removed in the next version of the laptop-tablet hybrid device since it reportedly causes problems like gathering dust.

Microsoft has yet to comment on the rumored specs and release date of the Surface Book 2.
