'Mass Effect: Andromeda' news: Good reasons for choice of trailer song

Bioware

Bioware has released a new trailer for "Mass Effect: Andromeda," but some gamers find it a bit odd that the game company chose Johnny Cash's western style hit "Ghost Riders in the Sky" as the song for the trailer. The song does not seem to go with the theme, but new reports claim that it was selected for a purpose.

When a fan tweeted to Bioware studio director Yanick Roy to change the rather unfitting song, Roy replied and said no, explaining that "there are very good reasons for that choice of song for the trailer that should become clear later on."

In a separate tweet, Roy explained that "the game's music itself will be much closer to what you would traditionally associate with 'Mass Effect' music" but provided no more information.

Rumor mills have been working on finding something that will give some clues. According to Design & Trend, Cash's song tells, in a way, the whole premise of "Mass Effect: Andromeda." While not much is known about the story of the new game, it is expected, based on leaks, that gamers will play the role of an inexperienced voyager who tries to find mankind a new home.

"Ghost Riders in the Sky" is said to be about a vagabond who comes across nightmarish spirits that he decides to follow, only to be pushed away and urged by them to make his life not as miserable as the one they are living. This seems to tie up "Mass Effect: Andromeda" and the song.

In the mission, players will be fighting off or teaming up with alien races that can be either friends or foes. They could be Bioware's "ghost riders." Altogether, the mission also sounds a bit like the U.S. cowboy's quest to take possession of the "wild west," Design & Trend adds.

Bioware has yet to reveal concrete details about the plot of "Mass Effect: Andromeda." The developer is also particularly silent about the character leading the mission. For now, gamers have to wait for the game studio itself to spill the beans.

"Mass Effect: Andromeda" is expected to be released holiday next year.
