Manchester United winger Nani thanked God for a successful season with Sporting CP on Facebook this week. 

The athlete, whose real name is Luís Carlos Almeida da Cunha, began crying after scoring a goal against Gil Vicente on Sunday, and wrote the post the next day. 

"When you believe in Him, all things are possible," he told his fans, giving credit to the Lord for the 2-0 win.

After scoring the goal, the 28-year-old ran around the field with his arms outstretched before being mobbed by his teammates. Then, he fell to the ground and began sobbing. 

After his teammates pulled him up, he looked and pointed to the sky with tears streaming down his face.

He explained his emotional response to the goal when questioned by reporters. 

"It was a goal like any other," he said. "I received the ball, saw the goal, shot and I was lucky.

"I thought about myself and everything that I have gone through. It's personal stuff, that nobody knows about."

Nani struggled with a foot injury last season, and was loaned to Sporting CP in August. A month later, he was voted Man on the Match at the Champions League, and scored his first league goal for the club days later. 

Sporting CP now has 47 points and is third in the table - behind Porto and Benfica with 49 points and 56 points, respectively. 

The team's next match is against Wolfsburg on February 26. Their last encounter ended in a 2-0 loss for Sporting CP.
