An Englishman is auctioning off a Dominican Republic vacation that was meant to be his honeymoon.

John Whitbread of Donisthrope will take the highest female eBay bidder with him on a two-week, all-inclusive vacation.

"I didn't really put that much thought into it," he said of the decision to only take a female companion. "It's not really sinister, because I'm not really asking for anything.

"I just hope for a fun holiday with some female company. I think it would just be easier. If they're bidding, there going to be adventurous anyways, I hope."

The £3,000 Dominican Republic package includes a honeymoon suite, but Whitbread insisted that there will be separate sleeping arrangements.

"The room fits three, so I believe there will be a couch I can sleep on," he quipped.

The 32-year-old was with his fianceé, Amy, for two years, and half that time was spent engaged.  Amy dumped him six weeks before the wedding.

"She said she didn't feel the same way when we first met and she hasn't been happy or herself the last month or so," Whitbread explained.

"Of course it was hard," he said of the break up. "The fact that's driving me is that I'm glad she did it when she did it. She's done the right thing. You don't want to be with someone if that's how they feel about you."

The honeymoon was nonrefundable, so Whitbread decided to auction off Amy's half of the vacation. The current bid is up to £6,000, and the auction ends January 15. Whitbread was surprised by the response.

"It's never been about the money," he said. "I thought it would give someone an opportunity to go on a cheap holiday. I never thought it would get this response."

The first £1,050 raised will be used as spending money during the trip, and the rest will be donated to a testicular cancer charity.
