LA Lakers roster rumors 2015: Sebastian Telfair joining?

The Los Angeles Lakers have been actively recruiting players as of late, and now, the latest in the rumor mill is that the team is contemplating on inviting journeyman guard Sebastian Telfair.

Telfair, 30, was the 13th overall pick of the 2004 NBA Draft by the Portland Trailblazers. He was one of the most hyped prospects at the time but as it turned out, Telfair ended up being more of a journeyman and never really made an impact with any of the teams he landed on.

Aside from the Blazers, Telfair also had stints with the Boston Celtics, Minnesota Timberwolves, Los Angeles Clippers, Cleveland Cavaliers, Phoenix Suns, Toronto Raptors, and the Oklahoma City Thunder.

Outside the NBA, Telfair suited up for Tianjin Ronggang and Xinjiang Flying Tigers in China.

His last stint in the NBA was back in 2014 when he was signed (and then eventually waived) by the Thunder.

The Lakers seem to have stocked up heavily in the backcourt so it seems a bit odd to see them targeting Telfair. The only logical reason behind it could be that the Lakers are looking at older players to be mentors for their young players like Jordan Clarkson and D'Angelo Russell.

On the matter of playing time, however, Telfair could end up being fourth string should he ends up being signed by the purple and gold.

The Lakers currently have 18 players on their roster, with Robert Upshaw being the last one added to the mix. Do remember that the Lakers are also thinking about adding vet Metta World Peace.

So with Telfair still under consideration, could rumors about this interest be true?

If so, how would the Lakers benefit from a Telfair inclusion? It is all about mentoring or are the Lakers simply planning to give the 30-year-old player another chance at his NBA career?
