Fans of "Longmire" were elated when it was confirmed that the series is coming back for a fourth season. The show was cancelled in late August by A&E and was picked up by Netflix in November. In a press release, the streaming service said that when Warner Horizon Television came to them to pitch a new season of "Longmire," they were "intrigued because the series is so unique, and consistently great." A 10-episode order was put in place, and filming for the fourth season began in March.

Back in April, CarterMatt reported that the first and second episodes of the new season were done, and this was confirmed by series star Cassidy Freeman on April 11 on Twitter, who also said that the third episode of the upcoming season will be entering production on April 13. Meanwhile, Katee Sackhoff posted a photo taken on the set on April 10, which shows the Sheriff and the American flag against the backdrop of the sun.

This month, filming for season 4 appears to be ongoing as actress Alicia Urizar posted on Twitter on June 12, "#Longmire cast & crew- You're amazing! Back at it next week!"

Lou Diamond Phillips also tweeted over the weekend and wrote, "Nothing like night shoots. #Longmire".

Filming is currently taking place in New Mexico, and as per Netflix's press release, season 4 "picks up after season 3's exciting finale. Walt Longmire (Robert Taylor), having found out who was behind the murder of his wife, succumbs to his darker impulses and takes off in pursuit of the killer with murder on his mind."

According to Netflix, the season will also focus on Branch Conally (Bailey Chase). He believes that he may have figured out who the real culprit is, but during his confrontation with the suspected killer, a gun went off. Viewers will finally learn what happened.

"Longmire" is slated to premiere in early fall.
