Liberian President visits OM ministry ship

The President of Liberia has paid a visit to the ministry ship of Operation Mobilisation, the Logos Hope.

The ship is currently docked in Monrovia, capital of the West African country, where it is staying for three weeks.

President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf visited the ship on Tuesday, meeting with its captain and director, as well as residents from nearby communities.

As part of her visit onboard, President Johnson-Sirleaf was shown the boat’s book fair, which contains 6,000 educational and Christian titles.

“Knowledge is the one thing that propels any person, any group, any nation,” she told crew.

“When you come and get us exposed to the books you have, you contribute a whole lot to our rebuilding process.”

The Logos Hope is run by a crew of 350 Christian volunteers who are also spending part of their stay in Liberia running practical assistance projects in nearby communities.

Earlier in the month, the Logos Hope was docked at Ghana, where it reached a new daily visitor record of more than 12,000.

Logos Hope passed a ministry milestone this week as it welcomed its one millionth visitor since the vessel’s launch last year.

In the Caribbean, where the ship was docked earlier in the year, three quarters of a million people came on board to visit the ship and purchase books from the book fair.

The book fair is a core ministry of the ship, bringing vital educational resources to developing or remote regions of the world where they may not be so readily available. OM said more than 70,000 Bibles had been sold through its book fair since the ship’s launch.

The ship departs from Liberia next Thursday. Its next port of call will be the Canary Islands in the Mediterranean.
