LG V10 release date: Oct. 1 event possible venue for new flagship launch

LG

LG is gearing up for something special on Oct. 1. The tech firm did not give any clue on what to expect from the New York City event, having only invited users to "save the date." But media outlets already have an idea what this occasion is for, and it has something to do with the release of a flagship.

For a while now, the rumor mill has been churning out pieces of information that point to the existence of the LG V10, which is poised to be another high-end offering from the South Korean manufacturer, opposite the LG G4.

What sets the V10 apart from the 5.5-inch device released back in April is some sort of an "auxiliary ticker screen," which is situated above the display, allegedly fashioned to show notifications, text messages and the user's RSS feed.

But media outlets also can't help but point out the obvious movie theme of the Oct. 1 event invitation sent out by LG. This has prompted speculations that if the LG V10 will be the star of the show, it might sport some video upgrades or other special features relating to its visual aspect.

The purported device has been spotted in the wild multiple times, enough for media outlets to develop a rather concrete list of specs. This comprises a 5.7-inch Quad HD display and a Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 processor, which is the same unit on the LG G4. It is also said to offer 3 GB RAM and a 64 GB storage space that is, to users' delight, expandable. That should give enough room for photos, videos and selfies captured by its 16 MP rear-facing camera (complete with dual-LED flash and laser autofocus) and its 5 MP front-facing snapper.

It remains to be seen if the LG V10 will be the centerpiece of the Oct. 1 event, but whatever LG has in store for consumers and the tech world, it will be something to look forward to.
