A coalition of Christian leaders and activists is planning a flash-mob prayer event for Iraq, Gaza and Israel in Parliament Square tomorrow evening.

The Middle East flash mob event will take place Thursday 14 August 7-8pm.

Gerald Coates, the prominent Christian speaker who was founder of the Pioneer network of churches, said he had already had backing from leaders in several different denominations and expected a strong turn-out.

He explained: "I was one of the Christian leaders invited to Number 10 recently – when confessing Christian, the Prime Minister David Cameron stated, 'Ours is the most persecuted religion in the world' and went on to explain his intention of speaking up for the embattled Cristian communities in many parts of the world."

Coates added: "But we seem to have heard little since."

Now that Cameron had returned from his holiday, to chair today's Cobra Emergency meeting regarding the crisis in Northern Iraq as well as Gaza and Israel, a flash mob event was timely.

"And all this is off the back of the nightmare in Syria and Egypt," said Coates. "However the prayer event is just that. It is not political. So leaders within many denominations have called for this event in the last 24hrs.

"Be there 7-8pm to pray and pray and pray for some miracles. Be there simply to pray with us! Spread the word - use Facebook - tell your friends - let's see large numbers of Christians standing together at this time."
