Grammy award-winning Christian hip-hop artist Lecrae will be writing a new book called "Unashamed," where he will reveal sensitive details about his past, including childhood abuse, drug and alcohol addiction, depression, and even an attempted suicide.

"I am writing 'Unashamed' for all those who don't know who they are, who feel confined by the labels given to them," Lecrae said in a press release provided by B&H Publishing. "This is for the outsiders looking for peace within."

In the book, Lecrae will also share how he managed to remain faithful to his Christian faith despite being immersed in a faithless world. He said he hopes his story will inspire others who are facing the same issues he once dealt with to turn to God and be proud of being a Christian.

Lecrae's songs have resonated so well with people from all walks of life, and this is something he hopes to achieve in "Unashamed." All of his seven studio albums and mixtapes have already sold over 1.5 million copies combined. Just last year, the talented Christian rapper co-headlined the highest selling tour in America, in the process beating other big names in the industry such as Beyonce, Justin Timberlake and Elton John.

"As an artist, my ambition is to make honest music, and I feel the same way about writing this book," Lecrae said. "I want to be honest about where I've come from and what I've learned along the way."

Lecrae also said that if people find comfort and encouragement after reading his book, then he will consider it a job well done.

"I want to influence culture, to help catalyze and inspire, and help other people find understanding. If they find some inspiration and some clarity for their own lives, as they follow my journey, then I will have succeeded," he said.
