Kevin Sorbo, the star of 'Hercules' and 'God's Not Dead', has lent his support to the plan to make a true crime film about the actions of abortionist Kermit Gosnell.

In a Youtube video Mr Sorbo and his wife, Sam, call for donations to fund the making of the film via the crowd-funding website Indiegogo.

Mr Sorbo refers to Kermit Gosnell's 30-year-long operation as "the crime of the century".

The actor says: "He delivered live, viable babies who cried and fought for their life before he murdered them by severing their spinal cord with his scissors. He called it 'snipping'."

The couple also express their dismay at the lack of media coverage of the story of Kermit Gosnell, and the dearth of Hollywood interest in this true life story as the potential subject for a film.

Sam Sorbo says: "Hollywood loves serial killers – TV and movies are full of these stories, the scarier the better would seem to be the motto.

"CSI, Criminal Minds, Person of Interest, The Black List, The Following, Law and Order, NCIS, Dexter, and many movies follow suit.

"Even our national and local news is dominated by the crimes committed every day in our society, so it's very odd that America's biggest serial killer has been virtually ignored, erased from history."

Phelim McAleer, Ann McElhinney and Magdalena Segeida are the filmmakers behind the plan to bring the story of Kermit Gosnell to the big screen.

Speaking to LifeSiteNews.com, Ms McElhinney said: "Gosnell killed more people than Gary Ridgeway, John Wayne Gacey, the Zodiac Killer and Ted Bundy combined. In a 30-year killing spree, it is thought he killed thousands of babies. And that's not a national story?"

Their Indigogo page has so far gathered $434,209 of the $2,100,000 budget they say the film needs. The campaign has 35 days remaining.

Indigogo was the filmmakers' second choice for a crowdsourcing website. They had hoped to use Kickstarter, but the website requested that they alter their descriptions of Mr Gosnell's crimes. Phelim McAleer has described this policy as "particularly odious and alarming".

The hope of the filmmakers is that the project and the power of the story has the strength to change people's minds about abortion.

"We know that two of the jurors [in Mr Gosnell's trial], self-described pro-choice, changed their mind about abortion," said Mr McAleer.

One of those convinced to change their mind, at least in part, by the story, was Mr Gosnell's defence attorney, Jack McMahon.

Speaking about the current abortion time limits, Mr McMahon was quoted by Christian Headlines as saying: "I've come out of this case realising that 24 weeks is a bad determiner.

"It should be like 16, 17 weeks. That would be a far better thing, and I think the law should be changed to that. I think there will still be the right to choose, but they've got to choose quicker. I think that's something that should come out of this."

Mr and Mrs Sorbo note that there were many opportunities to stop Gosnell's killing spree, as large numbers of people knew what was happening. In their video, the couple read out parts of the transcript of the Grand Jury investigation into Mr Gosnell's crimes.

Mrs Sorbo quotes the following: "All the employees of the women's medical society knew. Everyone there acted as if it wasn't murder at all."

Mr Sorbo then reads out a section of the transcript relating to one of the few specific cases that can be investigated. Mr Gosnell destroyed the files of most of the cases, but one that survived was referred to in the trial simply as 'baby boy A'.

"His 17-year-old mother was almost 30 weeks pregnant – seven and a half months when labour was induced. An employee estimated that birth weight was approaching six pounds.

"He was breathing and moving when doctor Gosnell severed his spine and put the body in a plastic shoebox for disposal."

Speaking about the need to make this movie, Mr Sorbo said: "If the media won't do their job, we'll do it ourselves.

"We pray that the thousands of babies slaughtered are never forgotten."
