The Kendrick Lamar and J. Cole joint album is not expected to see the light of day anytime soon, with the rappers taking on a whole host of other gigs and collaborations.

For starters, Lamar is still busy with his world tour, but he has also been working with other artists. The latest one is for DJ Khaled's upcoming album "Major Key."

The "How Much A Dollar Cost" hitmaker is part of the lineup of artists that helped DJ Khaled with the songs in his upcoming album, which will be out July 29.

Lamar teamed up with Big Sean and Betty Wright for the song "Holy Key," which is now out. Cole, on the other hand, went solo for the song "Jermaine's Interlude" on the same album.

This is the closest Lamar and Cole have been in terms of making music. Their rumored album is not expected to be out this year, with both rappers too busy to find time to continue work on the project.

Cole is set for to begin another world tour this month that will run up to September. Lamar, on the other hand, will be back on the road by the end of August to continue his world tour.

Indeed, after the Lamar and Cole album was announced in 2012, they have grown to become two of the biggest rappers of today.

This is what Top Dawg Entertainment president Dave Free was pointing out during his interview with MTV about the Lamar and Cole collaboration and why it might take a while to get here.

"Everything's a possibility, but I'ma say this too: Kendrick and Cole are in a place in their careers and in their lives where they have to keep going," he said.

"A joint album does sound great, but people need to understand, these two are geniuses...To get two of them in a space to do that, it takes a lot of time and energy," he went on to say.

Interestingly, it is the fact that these two are the biggest names in rap today that is making fans excited to see and hear in the flesh what they can accomplish together.
