Joyce Meyer says Christians should ask selves: 'Am I putting God first?'

Christian speaker and author Joyce Meyer says people often commit to spending time with God, but then forsake Him when certain things get in the way.

People develop habits based on what they do every single day, and popular Christian speaker and author Joyce Meyer strongly believes that Christians need to make God a habit because His presence is vital to people's lives.

"He is the Author of all true success and everything that is good. Without Him, we can do nothing of true value," Meyer stressed in her website. "Spending time with God through prayer and His Word is a prerequisite for having a great life and fulfilling your purpose."

It is true, she said, that people can improve through discipline, and they can even achieve success through it. However, nothing can ever top having a healthy relationship with God. Prayer not only changes things, but it changes people, she said.

"I absolutely love Hebrews 11:6. It says that God 'is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.' When we draw near to Him, He fills our lives with His strength, peace, joy, provision, and favour...and blesses us in ways we can't even imagine," she said.

Meyer added that it is so easy for people to put themselves, their reputations, friends, and possessions first in their lives, and that is why it is important to think, "Am I putting God first?" before going on a certain task or making a decision.

People often commit to spending time with God, but then forsake Him when certain things get in the way. Meyer said people are not only cheating God but cheating themselves in the process as well.

"When we continue to put everything else ahead of the Lord, we cheat ourselves out of something good that God wants us to have," she said. "The truth is that God will meet you where you are right now. As you take a step of faith, He will give you the grace and strength you need!"
