A new production of the Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber musical Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat will open in London at the Adelphi Theatre, 17 July.

Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat is a colourful retelling of the biblical story of Joseph and his uncanny abilities, favouritism, family rivalry, and temptation.

Lee Mead stars as Joseph, after being voted the public’s favourite on BBC1's Joseph: Any Dream Will Do.

Mead has previously performed professionally in musicals including The Phantom Of The Opera, Tommy and Miss Saigon as well as dancing in a Geri Halliwell video.

He believes that he would be a "strong, sensitive, cheeky and deep Joseph".

The original Joseph was a record-breaking London Palladium production during the 1990s, directed by Steven Pimlott. With lyrics by Tim Rice and music by Andrew Lloyd Webber, the new staging will once again be designed by Mark Thompson and choreographed by Anthony Van Laast.

Andrew Bridge is behind the lighting design, while sound design has been led by Mick Potter, musical supervision by Simon Lee and associate direction and choreography by Nichola Treherne.
