Jill Duggar on wedding with Derick Dillard: Waiting till marriage for first kiss was 'safer'

Jill is one of 19 kids in the Duggar family so her wedding to Derick Dillard was always going to be a big affair. And big it was, with over 1,000 people pitching up to her hometown of Springdale, Arkansas, for their wedding over the weekend.

Derick looked dashing in a light grey suit, perfect for a summer wedding, while 23-year-old Jill glowed in a vintage-style lace gown, complemented by a lace veil and her long hair worn down.

Reflecting on her union with Derick, Jill told People.com they were taking their vows seriously: "We want to think about the importance of marriage. And what it means to be married."

The couple told the entertainment website ahead of their big day that they were waiting until they were officially husband and wife even to share their first kiss.

"I think it is safer and makes it more special to wait to kiss until your wedding day," she said. "To save the physical side of your marriage for your wedding day and not going further than you should – we want to have no regrets."

Derick, who shares Jill's Christian faith, was equally happy to wait until they were married before taking that step.

"You can really get to know each other on every level without the physical part of it. I am the most blessed man to have Jill," he said.

The couple married at Springdale's Cross Church after several months of traditional Christian courtship that was closely monitored by Jill's parents, Michelle and Jim Bob Duggar.

Jim Bob was upbeat if a little sad that their daughter has flown the nest: "We all realised she was really leaving. We are so glad that Derick is an answer to her prayers. It's an emotional time, but a joyful time."

It may not be long before the 19 Kids and Counting family are back at the church again for another wedding, as Jessa Duggar continues her courtship with Ben Seewald.
