iPhone 6 phablet with 5.5 inch screen dubbed as iPhone L?

Is this the real version of iPhone 6?Facebook

New reports claim that the rumored iPhone 6 phablet with a 5.5-inch screen will be nicknamed iPhone L.

Apple is reported to release two smartphones this year, just like last year. However, instead of releasing a low cost smartphone, the company will launch a higher end handset. The company is rumored to release smartphones with 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch screen displays.

Rumors claimed that Apple will differentiate the two smartphones through their names. The phablet will be named iPhone 6L. The L will stand for "large". This is similar to how Apple named iPhone 4S, 5S and 5C. The smaller handset will be called iPhone 6.

This is not the first time Apple will name its device differently. Last year, the Cupertino-based company named its iPad line – iPad Air and iPad Mini with Retina display, steering away from its usual naming of iPads.

At the moment, reports claim that the iPhone 6 is currently in PVT (Product Validation Test) stage, which is the final stage before a device will enter mass production. This means that the assembly line is checking for possible issues and damages that may hinder the production. Reports said that Apple's loyal supplier Foxconn will be in charge of the production of the 5.5-inch smartphone.

According to rumors, iPhone 6 will be available in two variants – one with a 4.7 screen panel set to arrive next month, the other variant is set to pack a 5.5-inch screen display reported to arrive in October. Some of the other rumored features of the iPhone 6 are a 64-bit A8 processor, iOS 8, as well as  an improved fingerprint sensor and camera.

Most recent reports claim that the iPhone 6 release date will be Sept. 9, earlier than previous rumors based on previous iPhone releases that claimed the handset would be launched Sept. 19.
