Apple is rumored to be jumping on the bandwagon for curved screens as latest rumors state that the company will be launching the iPhone 6 with the new display.

The Cupertino company only launched its latest iPhone 5S flagship phone in September but rumors on the next-gen iPhone 6 continue to swirl.

It has already been reported that Apple will be keeping up with its competitors by releasing two – not one- flagship phones for the new year. Bloomberg reported earlier this week that Apple may release the two models of the iPhone in the third quarter of 2014. Both handsets are set to sport larger displays with "glass curves downward at the edges."

The iPhone 6, also dubbed the iPhone Air, is expected to compete with the likes of Samsung's successful Note series. Samsung's Note phablet has been a worldwide success since its launch, and the latest Note 3 has already sold over 5 million handsets in one month. This is reason enough for Apple to ramp up its game to take a chunk of the phablet market.

A recent report by NPD DisplaySearc stated that fans can expect to see two smartphones next year with both 4.7-inch and 5.7 inch displays.

Samsung's first smartphone with a curved screen, called Galaxy Round, launched in October.

Bloomberg also reported that future curved iPhones may have advanced touch sensors that can detect heavy and light touches, although that will be incorporated in later models of the iPhone and not the immediate 2014 models.

The rumors of iPhones with bigger 5 to 5-7 inch screens have been backed by KGI Securities' analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, who is well known for his accurate predictions on Apple devices. According to AppleInsider, Kuo pointed out that Apple will bump display size to 4.5 inches or 5 inches.

Other rumors surrounding the iPhone 6/iPhone Air is a sapphire glass cover, Sharp IGZO technology, 4GB RAM, 64-bit processor with dedicated M7 chip, and 128GB storage.
