Users may not want to get their hopes up on the long-rumored launch of the Apple iPad Air 3, as new reports claim it might not happen at all.

The iPad Air 3 was expected to be released in fall last year. Instead, Apple introduced the iPad Pro. Early this year, the Cupertino-based company came out with a smaller, 9.7-inch version of the slab.

Media outlets believe that the iPad Air 3 and the entire iPad Air line no longer serve their purpose since the iPad Pro can already cater to users of the iPad Air.

The fact that Apple released the 9.7-inch iPad Pro, which is the same size as the iPad Air, hints that it could be a replacement for the latter. However, Apple hasn't made that official yet.

Despite the possibilities of the iPad Air line being ditched by Apple, there are still reports that the iPad Air 3 will be one of the products the tech giant will launch this September.

The iPhone 7 is expected to be along with the purported MacBook Pro and MacBook Air 2016. It is also believed the iPad Air 3 will make an appearance.

Like the upcoming iPhone, the iPad Air 3 will reportedly don the iOS 10, which Apple is targeting for a fall launch, possibly along with the slew of its new products.

If it will ever come out, the iPad Air 3 is imagined to be much more powerful than its predecessor seeing that it will be fitted out with Apple's latest processor, which is the A10.

The storage configurations are expected to range from 16 GB, 32GB, 64GB and even 128GB. A Touch ID is expected to be on board.

The iPad Air 2 is currently on a big discount at Quick Shop Electronics, which was taken to mean that the retailer is clearing the room for the iPad Air 3.
