While coming out with at least two new flagship iterations, Huawei has also announced the budget-friendly Honor 5 Play.

The new addition to the Honor series is a direct follow-up to the Honor 4 Play released in 2014 and a lower version of the recently launched Honor 5 lineup. One interesting feature is that the new Honor 5 Play has a price tag of around $90, although its specs sheet shows mid-range features.

The Honor 5 Play has a 5-inch HD display with thin bezels on the sides. Under the hood, the new mid-ranger is powered by a quad-core MediaTek MT6735P processor paired with 2GB of RAM. Since the device is a basic model, the Honor 5 Play only has 16GB of storage onboard. However, even if the new iteration is an entry-level addition, the new Honor 5 Play has up-to-date specs and features. The new lineup addition boasts of 4G VoLTE support as well as dual-SIM and dual-standby support. As an upgrade over its predecessor, it runs on 2,200 mAh battery, against the Honor 4 Play's 2,000 mAh one. It also has a physical EasyKey that doubles as function button for apps.

As for its camera, the new iteration has an entry-level, 8MP main shooter on the back, with basic features such as self-timer. The selfie camera features a 5MP setup, and it seems that there is a screen flash feature installed – the display lights up when the front camera is used.

The new iteration has been announced and is already available in China. It is unclear on whether the new Honor 5 Play will have a global launch. However, with the Honor series being a global sub-brand, it is expected that Huawei will roll out the new Honor series – including the Honor 8 and Honor Note 8 – abroad.
