iPhone 6 vs HTC One M8 comparison: Two premium phones go head-to-head

On March 2014, the HTC One M8 was introduced as the smartphone that was "crafted to perform." The Apple iPhone 6, which was released a little over a month ago, was the tech titan's first take on full-sized handsets. How will the two compare?

Weighing in at 160 grams, the HTC handset comes in a brushed metal exterior, boasting a bigger 5-inch screen enveloped in its 9.35-mm body. The Apple flagship is remarkably thinner and lighter with a glass and metal build sizing up to 129 grams on top of an impressively slim 6.9-mm body.

In the display department, the two are matched. Both promise crisp and sharp details with capacities in line with their screen sizes. HTC One M8 boasts 1080 x 1920 screen resolution paired with 441 ppi pixel density. It is a tad better than iPhone 6's 750 x 1334 pixel resolution and 326 ppi. However, the Apple phone sports the most coveted Retina HD display and an "oleophobic" coating, making it resistant to oily fingerprints and scratches. This is the feature that lets the iPhone 6 pound its rival to dust.

The iPhone 6 is packed with the new A8 processor and 1 GB RAM bundle, which enables it to perform faster. The HTC One M8, on the other hand, is powered by a quad-core Snapdragon 801 along with a double RAM offer of 2 GB.

Image capabilities are not too far off. The HTC One M8 brags a 5-megapixel camera and an even better secondary shooter at 6 megapixels. The iPhone 6 is comparable with its 8-megapixel rear shooter and a 1.2-megapixel selfie-snapper.

Battery life is a big deal and the HTC phone snags the win here. With its 1810 mAh battery, the iPhone 6, according to IBTimes, lasts 12 hours maximum. The HTC One M8 offers 20 hours of use with its 2600 mAh battery, according to The Next Digit.

Other features make both the smartphones stand out in their own ways. The HTC One M8 parades a dual front-facing HTC BoomSound for phenomenal audio experience. The iPhone 6, on the other hand, has the built-in Touch ID technology for security, which makes it the perfect venue for the company's new mobile payment system, Apple Pay.

The HTC One M8 comes with 16 GB and 32 GB storage capacity complemented with Gunmetal Gray, Glacial Silver and Amber Gold color variants. The iPhone 6 offers 16 GB, 64 GB and 128 GB models in Space Gray, Silver and Gold.

The 16 GB version of the iPhone 6 costs $299. The 64 GB is at $399 and the 128 GB at $499. U.S. carriers offer it for $199 with contract. The HTC One M8 can be purchased for $600.
