Smartphone manufacturers are now turning towards making handset devices that come with more powerful front-facing cameras, enabling users to capture high-quality self-portraits.

Taiwanese smartphone maker HTC Corporation just released its HTC Desire Eye smartphone last November 2014, while another Taiwanese company Asus had unveiled the new selfie-focused Asus ZenFone Selfie at a recent event in Taiwan.

Both smartphones come with 13 mega pixel front and rear cameras with dual-LED flashes. In addition to the powerful front-facing cameras, what are the other unique features the HTC Desire Eye and the Asus ZenFone Selfie have?

The HTC Desire Eye smartphone has a 5.2 inch display screen with a 1080 x 1920 resolution, while the new Asus ZenFone Selfie has a larger 5.5 inch IPS display screen with a 1080 x 1920 resolution as well.

The Desire Eye's display is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 3 and the new ZenFone Selfie is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 4 with an oleophobic coating.

The HTC Desire Eye is powered by a non-removable 2400 mAh battery, while the new ZenFone Selfie comes with a bigger 3000 mAh battery. The Desire Eye comes with 2 GB worth of RAM and 16 GB internal memory storage.The ZenFone Selfie, on other hand, offers users two variants, a 2 GB RAM with 16 GB internal memory space, and a 3 GB RAM with a 32 GB internal memory.

Users can expand the Desire Eye's internal memory up to 128 GB via microSD card, and the ZenFone's memory up to 64 GB. For the operating system, the new ZenFone runs on the Android 5.0 Lollipop operating system while the Desire Eye handset runs on the older Android kitkat version, but can be upgraded to the Lollipop version.

For the cameras, Desire Eye is said to come with a dedicated camera button, and the ZenFone Selfie comes with a selfie button that is used to rapidly activate the front-facing camera.

The new ZenFone Selfie handset also comes with the "Beautification mode" and the "Panorama mode", offering users the ability to adjust the brightness of skin tones in images and capture wide-angle selfies.

Another company that's also launching a new selfie-centric smartphone is Japanese tech giant Sony Corporation. Sony just recently announced the Sony Xerpia C4 handset, which will be availabe first in Asia and later to other regions, according to a report.
