How you can improve your skills with the help of God

Do you desire to improve your skills so that you could be better at what you are doing? Do you desire to be a better servant of God and a better help to others in the body of believers? If you say yes to that, then be encouraged to know that God is able to help you improve your skills and even learn new ones.

'Are you serious?'

Yes, I am serious. God – the same God who created all of us and knit us inside our mothers' wombs and has designed all of us to do the good works that He has prepared in advance for all of us to do – is able and is willing to help all of us get better in the things that we are doing for His glory. After all, He is the giver of all good things – including your skills.

How God helps improve skills

God is able to help us improve our skills in a variety of ways, but I would like to clarify that God doesn't like laziness, so we can't expect to sleep tonight and become the best preacher or worship musician ever when we wake up. No, He doesn't work that way.

God helps us improve our skills in a variety of ways, and here are some of them:

1. When we dedicate them to Him

There are some instances in the Bible where God blesses the abilities of His people because these are meant for His glory. Samson, though blind and in chains, gained supernatural strength to pull down a temple so that he could show God's enemies that God was real. Other Old Testament war leaders, including Joshua, gained supernatural leadership when they dedicated their service to the Lord.

2. When we have God as our source of inspiration and motivation

We hear reports of people doing extraordinary things for the Lord because they love Him. I once saw a painter paint an upside-down piece in just four minutes. At first, viewers couldn't make anything out of it, but when the painting was turned upside down you could see his rendition of Jesus' face while the Lord was crucified. Think about talent.

In the Bible, we read David saying, "He teaches my hands to make war, so that my arms can bend a bow of bronze" (2 Samuel 22:35). When God is our source of skill and motivation to learn, we learn more than we could ever imagine.

3. When we obey His commands

God loves to do new things, and we will only learn them when we follow His Word. Consider what He said in Isaiah 43:18-19:

"Do not remember the former things, nor consider the things of old. Behold, I will do a new thing, now it shall spring forth; Shall you not know it? I will even make a road in the wilderness and rivers in the desert."

Friends, when we obey the Lord, we get to see new things happen. In fact, sometimes these new things happen through us! Consider Jesus' disciples. Imagine how they cast our demons and preached the gospel. None of them were officially trained in some school, but they were able to change the world. Why? It's because they obeyed the Lord Jesus.
