The basis of our morality is something that not many people agree on. Some will look to ethics and culturally accepted practices while others look up to the chosen few who dictate what's right or wrong whether they be priests, pastors or politicians.

But God makes it clear that the basis and perfecter of our morality is no other than Jesus Christ Himself and that to be able to see a moral revival we must open ourselves up to the Person of Christ and the message of His work.

There is much disagreement on whether the world we live in today is suffering from moral decay. But one thing is for sure: We are not in the moral standards that God would want for all of us. 2 Timothy 3:2 tells us for a fact, "For people will be lovers of self, lovers of money, proud, arrogant, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy."

How do we respond to the lack of morality that we face today?

Others will choose to openly confront the principalities of this world by taking them to the streets, to Congress and even sometimes to court. Many believers impose and insist on having a say in matters such as abortion, gay rights, racism, equality, and so on.

But what does God's Word say we should do in response to the ever-changing moral landscape? In 2 Chronicles 7:14, God says: "If my people who are called by my name humble themselves, and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land."

I'm not going to be the one to say that fighting for God's standards and rallying for change is not right, because that's not the point.

I would rather share three pointers that we can get out of 2 Chronicles 7:14.

Humble ourselves and pray. God will 100 percent without fail always respond to humility. It's no question that many of the issues that are out there today are much bigger than us individually, but none are ever bigger than our God. Government corruption may be daunting, but we know that in all things God is in control and Jesus is forever victorious.

Seek God's face. In all turmoil and even in rejoicing, we must continue to ask ourselves, "Where is Jesus in this situation?" Our main goal—more than pursuing church growth, moral perfection and generally accepted religious practice—is to seek God's kingdom and His righteousness.

Turn from our wicked ways. Note that God calls His people and not the world to turn from their wicked ways. Again, the Bible was meant to be a mirror for self-reflection, not a telescope to review the lives of others. It is only the Holy Spirit through the compelling power of Jesus' name that can change the hearts of others and we are only responsible for our own morality. Fight to rebuke and correct those closest to you, but what must matter to us all individually is our right standing with God first and foremost.
