Hillary Scott says Carrie Underwood's hit single 'Jesus Take The Wheel' was originally for her
After winning the fourth season of the singing competition "American Idol," Carrie Underwood immortalised the song "Jesus Take the Wheel."
It was one of Underwood's earliest hits, even winning her the Grammys for Best Female Country Vocal Performance and Best Country Song, as well as Single of the Year at the 2005 Academy of Country Music Awards.
Any other country singer would have given anything just to have been the one to own the song. But Hillary Scott, lead singer from Lady Antebellum, tells Taste of Country that she was initially offered the song written by Brett James, Hillary Lindsey and Gordie Sampson.
"It was one of my favourites, and then that was all right in the time she [Underwood] was on 'American Idol,'" Scott shares. "She was a country artist on 'American Idol,' which was amazing, and that song really spoke to her. She goes on to take it and it's a huge hit and the message of the song is so beautiful."
Scott is thrilled for Underwood's success, and she loves how the song impacted the lives of so many people. "It's neat to have watched the journey — the journey of that song — because they all have their own," Scott adds.
Meanwhile, Scott and her family have just released their new album "LOVE REMAINS by Hillary Scott & The Scott Family."
The album is very dear to Scott's heart because it is a special collaboration made with her parents Lang Scott and Linda Davis and little sister Rylee Scott. All of the songs are produced by Ricky Skaggs and each one contains a "personal and precious" story involving the Scott family.
The first song Scott released from the album is called "Thy Will," which Scott describes as her personal plea to God.
"I wanted to first share 'Thy Will.' I wrote this song about a very recent experience that left me heartbroken, asking why, and facing some of my most difficult days. This song is my letter to God," she says in a press release. "As I ask some really hard questions, I hold onto the truth that there is so much to the story of my life that I can't see, but that I still choose to trust Him."
