Highway to Heaven lands on DVD
As feel-good as TV gets
Published 11 June 2012
For most of us, TV shows aren’t just TV shows. They and the characters in them can feel like a part of our lives. A real blast from the past has just landed on DVD in the UK for the first time offering all 24 uplifting episodes from the first series of “Highway to Heaven”.
The popular series from the Eighties stars old TV favourite, the late Michael Landon, as Jonathan Smith, the probationary angel sent back to Earth to help troubled humans.
He’s a handyman, but like none we’ve ever known – calm, brave, wise, just and faithful to God.
The show wouldn’t be complete without his human sidekick, ex-cop Mark Gordon (played by Victor French), whose troubled life Jonathan once turned around.
Jonathan and Mark are sent by God into circumstances that are different each time but share one thing in common – people in need of God’s help.
Whether its helping two people overcome class and cultural barriers to find true love, inspiring a neighbourhood to confront its gang problem, or helping the Eurasian daughter of a Vietnam veteran deal with racism, they stay where they are needed until that all important happy ending comes.
Forget special effects, gimmicks, a stomping soundtrack, violence, or fast-paced action. This is the stripped back TV most of us remember watching as kids and didn’t we love it?! Simple, entertaining, and good.
