'Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2' movie sequel news: Filming to commence soon, says Michael Rooker

Marvel Studios

During the Dublin Comic Con, actor Michael Rooker, who plays Yondu in the hit Marvel superhero film "Guardians of the Galaxy," revealed to Irish Examiner that filming for "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2" just outside of Atlanta will commence soon, with the script already done. However, the publication provided no further details about the film.

"Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2" is a follow-up to the story of the motley crew led by Peter Quill aka Star-Lord played by "Jurassic World" main man Chris Pratt. Director James Gunn has already promised that the character's family background will be fleshed out in the sequel, which means the identity of his father will finally be revealed.

But he isn't the only one whose history will be unveiled. Apparently, Gunn has confirmed via Twitter that Rocket's origin will be shown in the flick as well. This means that fans will finally get to know who and what Rocket was before an experiment made him into a smart, gun-toting raccoon.

Also in the sequel, the team will reportedly get new recruits, which will ultimately reveal another guardian's past. Drax the Destroyer was hell-bent on revenge when he first appeared in the original movie. This is because his wife and daughter were murdered by Ronan the Accuser.

However, there are speculations that Ronan wasn't able to kill Drax's daughter, who is said to be Moondragon. She will reportedly become the new guardian and if she really does, she will be of great help considering her powerful telepathic and telekinetic powers and master martial arts skills.

On the subject of origin stories and pasts, an animated series short from Disney XD featuring Groot, the fan-favorite tree-like creature, was recently released. Rocket narrates the story because if Groot does, viewers will only hear, "I Am Groot."

"Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2" will blast into the theaters on May 5, 2017.
