'Grand Theft Auto 6' release date news: Game may be announced at this year's E3

"Grand Theft Auto V" has become one of the must lucrative video game products for both Take-Two Interactive and Rockstar Games. According to a report from Gamespot, the companies are set to make announcements "soon" and it is highly speculated that this may refer to "Red Dead Redemption 2" or "GTA VI."

"Rockstar Games is of course hard at work on some exciting future projects that will be revealed soon," explained parent company Take-Two as part of their official fiscal report for the year. Due to the statement, it is expected that Rockstar Games will unveil their new games during this year's E3, which will be held in June.

According to the report, there are no Rockstar Games listed in Take-Two's financial report for the fiscal year, which ends in April 2017. This indicates that the games Rockstar will be unveiling soon won't be coming out until after April 2017. The game's release may even be delayed beyond that, to late 2017 or early 2018.

While there is a strong possibility that the new game will be a brand-new IP or "GTA VI" given that the fifth "GTA" title launched as far back as 2013, Gamespot reveals that the new game the company is working on is likely going to be "Red Dead Redemption 2."

It was previously reported that an alleged map for "Red Dead Redemption 2" had been leaked online, giving further evidence that the new game may not be "Grand Theft Auto VI." However, given that no official statement has yet been given by either company, anything is still possible at this point.

Should "Grand Theft Auto VI" be the new game in development, it is likely going to be the biggest game in the franchise as it is going to be built from the bottom-up for the Playstation 4 and Xbox One instead of being an upgraded port from the PS3 and Xbox 360 era the way "GTA V" was.
