'Gotham' season 2 spoilers: casting calls for two key villains

"Gotham" season 1 did an excellent job in introducing some of Batman's famous enemies but it was mostly praised for the portrayal of Penguin and the Riddler. The show is now getting a second season and a recent casting call reported by TVLine hints that two new DC villains will be added to the fold in the upcoming second run.

The first villain is described as a male who is "intelligent, cultured and highly articulate," while also being "extremely attractive, both seductive and threatening." Fans have speculated that this might be a casting call for Mr. Freeze since the character was rumored to be introduced if the show was ever given the green light for a second season.

Mr. Freeze is a former scientist who went rogue when his wife Nora became terminally ill. In many iterations of the character, Freeze gets into a chemical accident while trying to cure Nora. The accident makes it impossible for him to live if he is not exposed to below zero temperatures.

The other casting call is for a female in her mid-20's who is described as "a sexy knock-out." Unfortunately that's the only information given which is why many fans have speculated that the only villain to fit the bill is Harley Quinn. Both Catwoman and Poison Ivy have already been introduced but they are still children in the show.

The Joker, played by Cameron Monaghan in season 1, is about as old as Jim Gordon so it makes sense that Harley Quinn would be the same age, if not younger. The only issue is that this makes the Joker and Harley Quinn older than Batman, potentially ruining a part of their relationship.

It is also important to note that the casting call will fill in slots for "DC villains," not exactly "Batman villains." This means it is also possible that the two antagonists Fox is looking to introduce might be from a different superhero's rogue gallery.

No premiere date has been given at the time of writing but "Gotham" season 2 is expected to start airing this fall.
