Gospel singer James Fortune has shared a prayer as he continues to heal from his domestic violence problem in 2014.

On Instagram, he shared "The OTHER Serenity Prayer" that he got in class.

"God, grant me the serenity to stop beating myself for not doing things perfectly, the courage to forgive myself because I'm working on doing better, and the wisdom to know that you already love me just the way I am," the prayer reads, according to the Christian Post.

Fortune said he "got this today in class and I wanted to share it with you. Tag 3 Friends."

His Instagram followers praised the post, commenting "Amen, I receive," "Awesome" and "Thank you, Lord."

The Grammy-nominated singer pleaded guilty last March to third degree felony charge of assault for beating up his wife in 2014.

He was sentenced to five years in probation and five days in jail. He was also made to serve 175 hours of community service, finish a batterer's intervention programme and stay away from his wife, KTRK reports.

In October 2014, Fortune assaulted his wife with a wooden stool and kicked her. This was the second time that Fortune pleaded guilty to violence.

In 2002, he struck a plea deal for six years of probation for burning his four-year-old son in hot water.

On "The Yolanda Adams Morning Show" radio programme last year, Fortune said, "A lot of times you'll always say what you'll never do but when you can't control your anger anything can trigger and make you do something that maybe you felt like you would never do."

"For me I ask God, of course I thank God for forgiveness but for me it was more than just forgiving. I wanted to be better. I wanted to be changed. I wanted God to do something on the inside of me so that my story, my testimony could help someone else," he said.
