Jamie Hewlett, co- creator of the band Gorillaz, has shared to the fans a post on Instagram regarding the release of the next album. The photo has a caption "New Gorillaz is special, really f**** special. Can't be rushed. 2017, yo."

Core member Damon Albarn seemed to be saying a different thing. He said in a recent interview with BBC 6 Music that their fifth album could be released this year. "Later in the year we'll be starting to get the whole Gorillaz thing together. I'm loving it and it's getting there. It should be ready fairly soon," he said.

With regards to the music, Albarn told Exclaim "I'm determined that my next record will be very upbeat, and I will try to set myself the benchmark of 125 bpm and nothing underneath that."

In an article by NME, artist Jamie Hewlett talked about the band's visual approach with Rolling Stone. "It's going to change – I can't tell you how. But of course it's going to be different, I can't do what I've already done, that's not interesting to me. In the same way Damon changes with his music and moves forward, I do the same. It's going to be a different look," he said.

They are known to be collaborating with different artists in this fifth album, including French composer Jean Michel- Jarre, English songwriter Liam Bailey, and producer Twilite Tone, because of a video clip uploaded by Hewlett on social media where they were all seen together in a studio together with Albarn.

Chicago rapper Vic Mensa is known to be part of the collaboration too as photo of him in a studio was posted by producer Remi Kabaka. Mensa was also included in the studio with the animated band.

The album has yet to have a name and this will be their fifth following "The Fall" which was released on December 2010.
