Good Friday – The Christian Today contemporary Spotify playlist

Glasgow City Council

Good Friday is the day we mark the turning point of history, the crucifixion. Jesus was arrested, put on trial and, despite Pilate's reticence, swiftly found guilty. It had been only a few days since the crowds had welcomed him into Jerusalem, shouting, cheering and acclaiming him. As soon as they saw him turning over the tables in the Temple, the authorities had been looking for a way to end what they saw as his insurrection.

Forced to carry his own cross to the site of his Crucifixion, Jesus was nailed to it, alongside two criminals. His final sayings on the cross are laced with pathos and deep theological significance. As he dies, the sun is darkened and the curtain in the Temple is torn from top to bottom. Seemingly, the game was up.

Here is the second of four Passion playlists from Christian Today. It features Christian and secular artists, from the likes of Johnny Cash and Bruce Springsteen through to the endlessly innovative Sufjan Stevens. On Holy Saturday and Easter Sunday, we will post a similar playlist, inspired by the biblical stories of each day.
