A divorced couple are set to marry for a second time after getting engaged over four decades since they split.

Louis Demetriades and Renate Stumpf, both 75, reconnected in December, ABC reports. Demetriades then proposed on Valentines Day, after driving from Tennessee to Arkansas to surprise his ex-wife at her workplace – Walmart.

"When we saw each other again last December, we knew right then we still loved each other for sure," Stumpf told ABC News. "That love has never passed."

She told reporters that they have made no plans for a ceremony just yet. "There's no rush at my age. God put us together again, and it couldn't be any other way after all these years."

The couple first met at 18, and were married for 13 years. After divorcing, they each married again, but both spouses have since died.

Demetriades proposed by holding a sign reading: "Happy Valentine's Day! Will you marry me?" last Saturday.

"Forty-three years is a long time, so I wasn't sure at first. But I will marry him though because he's changed for the better, I've come to realize," Stumph said.
